The world cup is now underway in South Africa and it looks like being a close tournament. Being english I will be supporting England, but can not see them winning, they have to play alot better. So far I have been impressed with Germany, Uruguay and particularly Argentina, who just beat South Korea 4-1 and play an impressive passing game.
The first world cup was held in 1930 in Uruguay, after in 1926 FIFA S secretary Henri Delaunay saw the popularity of the sport at the 1928 olympics in Amsterdam and decided to create a world cup open to the whole world. Thirteen teams participated in the tournament and the final was played in the centenario stadium in Montevideo, Uruguay beat Argentina 4-2. From then the tournament has been played every four years, with Brazil winning the most, being champions five times, with Italy winning four and Germany three. Many great players have graced this tournament such as Pele, Maradona and Zidane. Many great games will be played and the whole world will be watching.
