Every summer millions of birds migrate from afar a field as africa and travel as far as 12,000 miles. But how do they arrive at exactly the same nesting spot every year. It’s just a mystery. In the UK we have many migrants such as chiff chaffs, swifts, swallows and house martins. The summer sky is fall of these amazing birds and there arrival marks the start of summer, as they raise young to prepare to return to far away lands.
Some research has shown that geese which migrate between siberia and india fly at heights of 30,000 feet , over the great mountain range, the himalayas and artic terns travel up to 24,000 miles a year! But how do they do it, are they guided by the sun or shadows it marks on the ground or are they using stars as guidance? Whatever the reason its an amazing skill and shows nature has its own form of intelligence, instinctive and profoundly moving.
